What makes a great law firm website
People looking for a lawyer are often stressed and comparing options. Here’s how a law firm website builds trust fast and turns visitors into consultations.

Your clients arrive worried
People rarely search for a lawyer when life is going smoothly. They’re dealing with a separation, a visa, a dispute, a business deal or a loss. They’re comparing firms, often late at night, trying to work out who they can trust.
Your website needs to calm, reassure and make the next step easy.
Lead with clarity, not jargon
Legal language can feel cold and confusing. Speak plainly about who you help and how. Instead of listing areas of law, describe the situations you help people through.
"We help families navigate separation with less conflict and cost" means more to a worried reader than "Family law services". Our guide to website copy that converts has more on writing this way.
One page per practice area
Create a dedicated page for each area you practise in. Each one should explain:
- Who it’s for and the situations you handle
- What the process usually looks like
- What it might cost, or how you charge
- Common questions
- How to book a consultation
These pages help clients find the right help, and give Google a specific page to rank for each search.
Build trust quickly
- Real photos and profiles of your lawyers, with their experience and areas of focus
- Accreditations and memberships
- Plain-English guides that show your expertise
- Clear information about fees and how billing works
- Client feedback, where professional rules allow it
Make booking simple
Offer a clear way to book a consultation on every page. A short form or online booking works well. Explain what happens next, how quickly you’ll respond, and whether the first consultation is free or paid.
Serve clients beyond your office
Many areas of law no longer need face-to-face meetings. If you run consultations by video and can act for clients interstate, say so clearly. A firm that only talks about its own city is invisible to someone in a regional town or another state searching for exactly that expertise.
Immigration, employment, commercial and some family law matters are good examples. Pages and guides written for a national audience can bring in clients well beyond your local area.
Write helpful guides
Content that answers common legal questions in simple terms builds trust and brings in search traffic. Guides like "what happens at a first visa appointment" or "how property is divided after separation" help people before they’re ready to call. They’re also the kind of clear, quotable answers that AI tools like to reference, which we explain in how to get featured in AI search.
Keep guides general and clearly note they aren’t legal advice for individual situations.
Follow the rules
Lawyers in every Australian state and territory have professional obligations around advertising, and some jurisdictions restrict advertising certain types of work, such as personal injury. The rules differ between states, so make sure your website content, testimonials and claims meet the obligations wherever you practise before publishing.
Speed, privacy and security
Clients may share sensitive information through your forms. Use secure forms, keep only what you need, and make your privacy policy easy to find. Make sure the site is fast and accessible, because many visitors will be on their phones and some will be stressed, tired or reading in a second language.
The quick checklist
- Plain-English messaging about who you help
- A page for each practice area
- Lawyer profiles and credentials
- Clear fees information
- Easy consultation booking, including video consultations if you offer them
- Helpful guides
- Advertising rules checked for every state you practise in
- Secure forms and a clear privacy policy
